Little Theatre-The Foreigner

Aug 5  - 6, 2011 8pm

A comedy by Larry Shue, Directed by Patti Earl

An inspired comic romp! "Froggy" LeSeuer, a British demolition expert, arrives at a fishing lodge in rural Georgia to run training sessions at a nearby army base. "Froggy" has brought along a friend, a pathologically shy young man named Charlie who is overcome with fear at the thought of making conversation with strangers. So "Froggy," before departing, tells all assembled that Charlie is from an exotic foreign country and speaks no English! Once alone the fun really begins, as Charlie overhears more than he should-the evil plans of a sinister, two-faced minister and his redneck associate; the fact that the minister's pretty fiancée is pregnant; and many other damaging revelations made with the thought that Charlie doesn't understand a word being said. This fuels the nonstop hilarity of the play and sets up a wildly funny climax in which things go uproariously awry for the "bad guys" and the "good guys" emerge triumphant.

Ticket Prices:
Adult: $16

Sea Coast Owners and Guests

Owners & Guests---

July 4th at the Condo!

What a beautiful day it was, on the beach children were running here and there, gathering choice shells and filling their buckets with beach treasures.  Groups of holiday-makers were sitting under large beach umbrellas, playing frisbee, ladder toss and a myriad of beach games while others were sunbathing on the beach, or just relaxing by the pool.   In the waves were the swimmers. those riding their boards and even kayaking  How delighted we were when we dived down into the fresh cool water and took a long leisurely swim, the breaking  waves affording us a free ride to shore, the sounds and laughter of holiday-makers created a perfect day at the beach

I just happened upon a cool web site that might be of some interest for both owners and guests:
www.yes2menus.com -  then put in volusia. The site has local restaurants listed some with coupons, some with menus or both!

Guests —

When visiting Sea Coast you MUST hang a yellow Sea Coast parking tag on the rear view mirror. These yellow tags are available in the office, as are our new wrist bands which must be worn poolside.

We welcome your comments, suggestions, recommendations  and commendations to the management and don't forget, if you have a guest book in your unit please leave a note.

Thank you

Owners ---

PLEASE be sure that when you come to Sea Coast your small red and white Sea Coast sticker is visible on your car. We ask also that you remind your friends, family and guests that when visiting Sea Coast they MUST hang a yellow Sea Coast parking tag on the rear view mirror. These yellow tags are available in the office, as are our new wristbands which must be worn poolside.

This will help us control uninvited guests and to assure that your own parking space is always available for you.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

June Hardee

Definitely Not Starbucks

Since first coming to live in this small beach town on the east coast of Florida one ingredient of the good life has been missing. For a long time I was accustomed to having a nearby coffee shop offering good iced coffee, sandwiches and a comfortable atmosphere, a place to pass an hour or so in the late afternoon, relaxing finish to the waning light of day. It was starting to look like a shop of this description might be a permanently absent ingredient of these streets, the nearest thing bad paper cup coffee from an ice cream shop down the street. And then a few days ago I noticed what looked like a café on the main street of town, one of those driftwood and surfboard type places. Went inside and found out they open at 6:30 a.m. and stay open until 6:00 p.m., serving coffee hot and iced, as well as sandwiches. Icing on the cake is the free Wi-Fi along with some skillful acoustic guitar playing and singing from the locals.

The place is called Chuckeyta’s, an interesting name for sure and the business card calls it a ‘surfing sea monkey shack’ built in 1910. A flyer explains that the old bungalow is a Sears and Roebuck craftsman mail order home, a landmark house that has been occupied by several of the city Mayors. The owner is a local man named Chuck Carter, and that explains the first part of the café’s name. The full version came out of Chuck’s hobby of collecting banana stickers, with Chiquita becoming Chuckeyta’s.

You almost expect to hear Jimmy Buffet singing “Margaritaville” when you walk inside and see the unmatched wooden tables, casual decor and dust motes floating in slanted rays of beach light pouring in through the windows. The café gets it look from the eclectic splash of accessories—things like old telephones, hubcaps, street signs, license plates, water skis, surfboards, wicker topped tables, wood puzzles, sombreros and old coffee mill. Few could complain that the look is uninviting.

The menu is limited but still offers plenty for anyone not wanting a full meal. Smoothies, various teas, fresh squeezed orange juice and lots of baked goods like homemade banana bread, muffins, cookies and bagels; on the sandwich end are chicken salad, very veggie and peanut butter & jelly. The very veggie is also offered as a salad of lettuce, tomato, shredded carrot, feta cheese and sunflower seeds served with raspberry vinaigrette or Italian dressing. The most popular sandwich seems to be the Maxximum—two eggs scrambled, bacon and American or feta cheese served on a fresh croissant. The partner to my excellent iced espresso was a chicken salad sandwich on toasted whole wheat bread. The chicken salad is made with raisins, cranberries and apples and a couple of secret ingredients that all add up to a pretty darn good mix, maybe the best in a long time.

When I first walked into Chuckeyta’s there were no more than three or four other people and definitely a quiet kind of place. A short time later a couple of high school guys with guitars came in and set up in a corner across from my table. Fifteen minutes later it had become three guitar players. Obviously I’m out of the link but these high school musicians were far beyond untuned and broken chord amateurs. Mostly surfer tunes with a few old Simon and Garfunkel songs, but good enough to attract a circle of blonde doe-eyed fans of the curvy gender. Under some circumstances this kind of background would send me looking for another place, but these guys did it well and were in no way loud, crude or obnoxious. Small town beach boys who like guitars and surfing and do it without breaking up a comfortable atmosphere.

Comfortable, good atmosphere, excellent coffee and tasty sandwiches. Looks like I found the spot.

Beach Therapy
Therapy for your mind, body and spirit...
What is "beach therapy"? I've searched the web for an official definition of "beach therapy". Many people describe it but no one actually defines it, so you heard it here first:

Beach Therapy: "The treatment of disease or disorders, including various forms of stress, by participating in healthy activities generally associated with and carried out at the seashore."

What can beach therapy do for you? Beach therapy can relieve your mind, body and spirit of the day-to-day pressures we all experience in one form or another. Just a few days of beach therapy can make a bad situation back at home a little more bearable; it can help put quality back into your family life; it can help you clear your head so you can make important life or career decisions; and it can help you turnaround an "ailing attitude." I'm not a medical expert, but I am fortunate to live on the coast of Florida and see and feel firsthand the effects of a day at the beach.
Beach Therapy Rx
Your Beach Therapy Prescription...
4 - 14 Days at the Beach: Whether you complete your beach therapy over an extended weekend or a couple of weeks, you can improve your mind, body and spirit by exercising, eating healthy, meditating and playing. Walk about a mile each day along the shoreline (barefoot is best, watch for obstacles such as broken shells or rocks.) If a mile is too little or too much, walk a distance that is comfortable for your, listen to your body, but don't be afraid to challenge yourself.

Eat Healthy: Eat healthy while you're undergoing your beach therapy. Eating fruit and drinking lots of water while you're on the beach will keep you hydrated and energized. There are usually plenty of seafood restaurants on the coast. A fresh fish dinner is a delicious and healthy meal, but don't overindulge. And be sure to drink lots of water.

Wave Meditation: We believe in meditation over medication. Get comfortable and, with your eyes closed, spend a minimum of 30 minutes focusing solely on the sound of the waves crashing and then rolling onto the shore. Be sure to select a beach that is not crowded so you are not distracted. The sounds of nature are naturally soothing and the sound of ocean waves is particularly powerful.

PLAY: Here's the one that's a lot of fun... There are so many beach activities and beach sports to participate in, find one that you enjoy and go for it... this is your time to PLAY! If you're feeling adventurous, learn a new sport such as kitesurfing or bodyboarding. Let go and have FUN!

Please help us protect the beach environment

  • Don't disturb a turtle that is crawling to or from the ocean or laying eggs. Watch from a distance.
  • Avoid shining lights on the beach at night as this may frighten away nesting females and interfere with the baby turtles' ability to find the sea.
  • Avoid walking or cycling in places posted as nesting areas.
  • Immediately report any injured or dead sea turtle to the nearest Volusia County Beach Safety employee.
  • Do not disturb markers or protective screening over turtle nests. These nests are being studied and protected.
  • Avoid walking on the dunes along the beach.
  • Don't disturb nesting sea birds
  • Don't litter. Cigarette butts, fishing line and other trash can harm the animals and birds along the beach.
  • Do your part to spread the word about environment-friendly habits on the beach.

Have a wonderful and safe summer!
